- Our client is looking to add a Senior Banker to their newly established London based Investment Banking platform
- The individual will be responsible for originating high yield and leveraged financing transactions in collaboration with Client Coverage and Product partners in the UK, Sub-Saharan Africa and South Africa
- The role is to ensure that the client has a seamless integrated product offering for its multinational and local African clients who wish to access hard currency sub-investment grade funding markets offshore


  • At least 10 years’ banking experience with a focus on high yield and leverage finance origination
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a director level role
  • Experience in Financial Modelling, Debt Structuring, and Loan & Bond documentation and origination
  • Experience in covering both African clients and international corporates with significant exposure to Africa


  • Identify and source high yield and leverage financing opportunities across the African continent
  • Co-ordinate with Client Coverage teams to engage with clients operating on the African continent and establish their debt financing needs
  • Collaborate with the Global Finance teams in South Africa and other group presence countries to ensure consistent and coordinated product origination, structuring and execution for global corporate clients
  • Work directly with these clients to structure, present and negotiate debt solutions to meet their requirements
  • Coordinate with the Syndicate team to structure, price and arrange transactions for distribution (in bi-lateral, capital markets or derivative format)
  • Advise clients on a wide range of capital structure decisions and financing alternatives
  • Develop strategic initiatives as agreed with the Head of Global Finance according to the medium-term plan
  • Drive the implementation of strategic initiatives, managing resources within and outside Global Finance across multiple jurisdictions
  • Work with Investment Banking team to develop financing solutions for clients undertaking large scale local or cross-border M&A transactions
  • Continuously evaluate the external environment and assess the impact on origination activity
  • Lead the decisions with regards to the area's product development and engage with other stakeholders across the firm to create synergies, leveraging off other distribution channels with the aim of increasing the profitability
  • Lead client due diligence and credit approval process
  • Co-ordinate with internal and external counsel to negotiate legal documents with clients and ensure these comply with market standards, reflect the commercial credit approved terms of the transaction and appropriately address risk areas identified
  • Apply compliance policies and procedures, work with the compliance team to ensure these are adhered to
  • Report on market conditions, market deal & origination activity, mandated pipeline and executed transactions
  • Understand the High-Yield and Leverage Finance market accessible to African borrowers. This should include a good understanding of who would likely be buyers of this debt being frontier or emerging market fund investors
  • Having a relationship with frontier / emerging market funds and working very closely with Syndicate to position offering and market transactions to investors
  • Proactively develop relationships with key external stakeholders including local regulators relevant to the business, global product heads, key suppliers and external regulatory bodies to ensure appropriate cooperation when required and that the Group mee
  • Build and develop relationships across the firm with various stakeholders with the intention of breaking down silos to maximise business growth
  • Act as key sponsor for the area’s Risk Management Control Framework
  • Review audit scopes defined by managers in the team and Internal Audit or Management Assurance prior to audits commencing
  • Complete required compliance training and attestations
  • Review and approve Risk and Control Assessments prepared in the function
  • Oversee the development of Key Risk Scenarios. Actively work to minimise the amount of economic capital that must be set aside for operational risk
